The Second Life of Things: Vilnius

Case study

Aims of the project:

DĖK‘UI – ‘Second Life of Things’ pop-up shop/station and online resource. The concept has been adapted from other examples in northern/Nordic countries and includes a Things Library as well as pop-up shop for second-hand clothing.

The website, Stoteledekui provides an easy way for citizens to offer items to be shared or reused, with a simple, easy-to-use reservation system. After use items can be re-uploaded to be shared or used again.

Results:

  • About 2,000 items were distributed within five months;
  • If these items had become waste, they would weigh 40 tons;

New initiatives being rolled out include making reusable shopping bags from bulky textiles like old curtains.

The Second Life of Things concept is being expanded to new locations and being expanded to include an offering from businesses.
